STABILO Sensor Cushion Tip Pen

Another cool STABILO product that I've been having fun with is the STABILO Sensor cushion tip pen. It's unique because it has a patented spring tip system, so it adjusts to the pressure of your hand when writing with it, making it more comfortable to use. I shocked some people the other day when I demonstrated the cushion tip by pounding it multiple times on a pad of paper (it doesn't break!). Because it's more comfortable to use, you can write for longer periods without getting as much fatigue in your hand. The tip is encased in metal, which makes it good to use with rulers as well. It comes in black, red, blue, and green, with a .3mm tip.

If your want to know where to get the Sensor, send me an email and I'll help locate a retailer for you!

Suprise Fan of the STABILO GREENlighter Dry Highlighter

I learned about a new fan of the STABILO GREENlighter the other day - Zoe the Chinchilla!

Zoe was rummaging through her owner's embroidery basket one evening, and out of all the interesting little objects, she pulled out a STABILO Greenlighter - the dry highlighter pencil as her item of choice!

Zoe's choice showed off her "green" conscious, since the highlighter is made from FSC-certified wood. Nice pick Zoe!
Now she's "Zoe, the STABILO Chinchillo!"

Another STABILO Mega-Store - Artist & Display in Milwaukee, WI

Actually, Artist & Display in Milwaukee, WI is the ORIGINAL STABILO mega-store in the US! About a year ago they put up a giant STABILO "Planet 3000" display - a huge STABILO red structure that almost looks like a playground set of some sort, except it houses all kinds of STABILO products.

Owners Jack and Lynn Klein and creative director Nora Hackenberg (Lynn and Nora are pictured above with their staff in custom Point 88 t-shirts in front of the display) have been STABILO lovers and supporters for some time now, and were really excited to be the first store in the United States to have this mega-display. To celebrate the new display, last October they held "STABILOfest" - a month of creative and fun activities revolving around STABILO products. Some of the highlights from the events included the making of STABILO shrinky-dink people, a giant mosaic made out of 843 pieces of paper squares, and even school kids singing a special STABILO song they wrote! Lynn and Nora have even been known to make STABILO jewelery.

Artist & Display even made a video for Youtube chronicling all the STABILOfest activities, which you check out with this link;

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JYQObncdpCY

A year later, STABILO is still going strong in their store - they offer a ton products like Point 88, Point Visco, Pen 68, CarbOthello, the GREENlighter dry highlighters, the GREENcolors & GREENgraph pencils, Bionic Worker pens, ALL STABILO pencils, Sensor pens, Easy Ergo pencils, Woody pencils, and much more!

For more information on Artist & Display, check out their website;

They always have fun events and activities going on!

Flax San Francisco Becoming a STABILO Mega-store!

OK, well the whole store won't quite be STABILO, but this week Flax Art & Design in San Francisco, CA (http://www.flaxart.com/) will become the first retailer in the United States to have their very own STABILO Active Shop!

This 2-tower display will hold a ton of cool STABILO stuff. Here's a sneak peak at what's gonna be in there:

Point Visco pens
CarbOthello pencils
Write 4 All pens
Sensor pens
Pen 68 markers
Point 88 fineliners
BOSS highlighters
Easy Ergo pencils
ALL STABILO pencils
Woody 3 in 1 pencils
Power markers
GREENlighter - FSC dry highlighters
GREENgraph - FSC graphite pencils
GREENcolors - FSC colored pencils

This is definitely one hearty selection of STABILO.

We'll be setting up the display this week and I'll be updating the blog after it's up and ready to go!
We'll also be celebrating with Flax for this special occasion of being the first in the US to have the STABILO Active Shop by holding a STABILO event later this year. I'll be posting that as well once it's determined.

STABILO Is Hot at the University of Oregon!

Word on the Oregon streets is that University of Oregon students love STABILO! So much so in fact, that the Duckstore (the school bookstore) made a cool custom window display to celebrate the arrival of a new STABILO display in their store.

I asked the store staff what they liked most about STABILO. They said they really liked the good German quality and stylish design of the products - and style matters to their students! They also liked that a lot of the products are more ergonomic and more unique than the standard, non-exciting pens and pencils you find in the big box stores.

As far as what products are most popular with the students, it looks like Point 88 and Pen 68 are the winners. But that wasn't it. Staff members Christopher and Rachel said, "The Stabilo Green line appeals to North West customers. Big draw as environmental issues become more mainstream." They also professed love for the Woody pencils and new dry highlighters!

Nice to see the STABILO love spreading out there!

STABILO Dry Highlighter - GREENlighter!

I have to be honest, one of the new STABILO products that surprised me the most this year was the GREENlighter - a dry highlighter pencil that's part of the new GREEN range of product. Basically, it's a thick pencil that's used as a highlighter. STABILO used to make the BOSS dry highlighter pencil, but discontinued it several years ago. I was fortunate to have one of the old BOSS dry highlighters and LOVED it, which is why all that remains now is a little nub of it in my desk drawer. So when I found out STABILO was reviving the dry highlighter as part of their GREEN range, I got excited.

What surprised me was that there are others out there that felt the same way I did! When talking to STABILO lovers about it, I found there were other people out there who missed the BOSS dry highlighter and have actually been looking for it since it disappeared. Now it's been reincarnated as an eco-friendly version in three colors!

So here's the lowdown on the GREENlighter - it has a triangular shape making it more ergonomic to hold, and it's also thicker than a normal pencil. The wood is 100% FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certified wood and is coated with an eco-friendly matte finish. It comes in three colors; yellow, green, and pink.

If you want to know where to find the STABILO GREENlighter, feel free to email me at:

Kids Gone Wild for STABILO at Flax Kidsfest!

Kids descended upon Flax Art & Design by the HUNDREDS this past Saturday for a day of artistic discovery! Most of them made it to the STABILO table where they grabbed up Point 88 and Pen 68 pens, CarbOthello and Woody pencils and went crazy making artist trading cards on Strathmore ATC papers. It wasn't just the kids who got in on the fun, the parents were right there up in the mix trying different products and indulging their artistic imaginations. Not surprisingly, the big hits of the day were the Point 88 pens and Woody 3 in 1 pencils.

HOT Deals and HOT Temperatures at Rileystreet!

The 98 degree temperature didn't keep hundreds of customers from making it over to the 41st Anniversary Sale and 12th annual Demo Day event at Rileystreet Art Supplies in Santa Rosa, CA last Saturday!

In a sea of white tents that housed over 30 art supply vendors, our red STABILO tent caught the eyes and interests of many of the attendees. We were able to collect several pages worth of new artist trading cards that attendees made to help fill up the new album. Favorite products of the day were the Point 88 fineliner and the Woody 3 in 1 pencils.

STABILO Hearts of Thanks!

Yesterday I was handed a little envelope with a big surprise in it - 10 handmade heart cards decorated with STABILO and carrying words of thanks!

I had met a very nice art materials enthusiast at one of the recent STABILO demos I did, and as we kept in contact, I learned she was a member of several artist groups who focus on different themes. I sent her a little sample package of STABILO products that I thought would be appropriate for the different groups, including Point 88, CarbOthello, and Woody. She took the samples and made cute little gift bags with them to hand out to the group members. It was a very gratifying surprise to receive the thank you hearts back that had been decorated with those same STABILO samples. It was clear that everyone was enjoying trying them and discovering their own new favorite!

Are you a member of an artist group that would like to explore the world of STABILO? Feel free to email me and tell me about your group and what kind of art you do, and I'd be happy to send some appropriate samples for trial (offer is for the US only)!

STABILO Demo at University Art a Success!

Pen Master Adam and I enjoyed speaking to and sharing STABILO with over 30 participants in 2 hours at the University Art demo in Palo Alto, CA this past Saturday!

Adam had an awesome idea to make a "house" with windows cut to the size of ATC cards out of a mat board. He cut the window holes himself and drew a cute house around them. We then invited participants to fill in the windows of the house with different scenes they created on Strathmore Artist Trading Card paper. You can check out the pictures from the event here;

Participants got to try a variety of STABILO products, grab some free samples and goodies, and purchase all STABILO products available in the store at 30% off that day! The most popular products were Point 88 pens, Woody pencils, and Pen 68 pens.

Thanks to everyone who stopped by the demo that day!

For those of you who live in the San Francisco Bay Area, there will be another chance in June to check out the world of STABILO at an upcoming retailer event in Santa Rosa. More details to come on the blog soon!

Pen Master Adam Lisbon!

In my last post I mentioned that my friend Adam Lisbon would be along with me for the STABILO demo this Saturday, May 30th at University Art in Palo Alto, CA.

Adam and I met last year and as soon as I found out he was an artist, I had him show me what his skills were all about and open up his portfolio. I was blown away by the intricate details and designs that play tricks on the eye - you can really get sucked into examining everything that is going on in each of his drawings (I have!). Check out his portfolio here;

Before we met, Adam had never used STABILO before, so of course I hooked him up right away with some samples. Now he's opened up his traditionally black and white style to STABILO colors, making aritst trading cards with Point 88, Pen 68, and Colorgel pens. You can see STABILO color highlighting his more recent regular works too!

His clear STABILO favorite are the Colorgel pens - gel rollerball pens that come in solid and metallic colors. What really trips me out is the geometric designs he makes with Colorgel - the metallic colors come off looking 3D, like the whole image has a texture to it, even though it's flat! One of my favorites is the one at the top of this post.

So come check Adam out this Saturday to learn for yourself how to create cool designs and effects with STABILO!

Point Visco - the HOT New Gel Rollerball

Last weekend the splendid city of Louisville, Kentucky hosted the big trade show for the National Art Materials Trade Association (NAMTA). Each spring art materials manufactures and distributors come together to show their stuff off to art materials retailers from across that nation.

STABILO is no stranger to this show, and this year we had a bigger presence than ever with a very cool, custom red STABILO tent top. Under the tent, we featured all the newest STABILO products, and had a large testing table so attendees could take them for a test run.

The hit of the show was the STABILO Point Visco gel rollerball! With a body modeled after the popular Point 88, the Point Visco also features a comfortable rubber grip zone, and contains a special low-viscosity gel ink in a rollerball tip the dries ultra-fast to avoid smudging. It comes in 10 vibrant colors.

I have to say, personally, this is one of my favorite STABILO pens (it also happens to be a favorite in the office!). I love the way it feels in my hand and glides across the paper. NAMTA show attendees felt the same way - the reaction when people picked it up and tried it was "oooohh!" It was quite a hit and I expect that you'll be able to find Point Visco available in more and more art supply retailers around the country soon.

Giant STABILO Hands of Love in Germany!

The Paperworld show is held in Frankfurt, Germany every year in late January/ early February. This show is a MASSIVE production that includes several multi-level halls filled with companies exhibiting everything from designer backpacks to make-up to crazy Christmas decorations. In the middle of all that is the grand showcase - Hall 3. This is the main hall which features mostly writing instruments. STABILO can easily be called the main attraction of this hall as it sits right in the middle and is always colorful, fun, and innovative.

Each year the booth has a different theme. This year's theme was Right Handers and Left Handers, to pump up their ergonomically designed S' move Easy pens and Easy Ergo pencils, which come in both right and left-handed versions. You could either enter the booth from a humongous left-hander's doorway or an equally humongous right-hander's doorway. Inside there were larger than life plush pens and pencil "benches", product testing areas, and a booth where you could get a mysterious fruity drink in a vial (sorry, non-alcoholic!).

But behind the red curtain in the back is where the real action happens. If you know the right people, you can gain "backstage" access and enter the meeting area to sit down, talk new products, and get served up some tasty German treats (waitresses come and actually take your order) courtesy of Stabilo. You can even get a beer to make up for the non-alcoholic fruity vial! If you don't get access backstage, there is still another side area where anyone can enter and view all the hot new Stabilo products coming out.

New STABILO GREEN Products

Word on the street is that GREEN is HOT!

Environmental responsibility has become an important topic in our everyday lives. Numerous companies have recognized the need be more environmentally responsible and are now offering a multitude of "green" products.

STABILO has been on the forefront of the green movement from early on. It was the first pencil manufacturer in the world to become FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certified back in 1998. It was also one of the first 100 companies overall to gain this certification. Being FSC certified means that as a manufacturer, STABILO's manufacturing operations meet the strict requirements set by the FSC that ensure environmentally responsible management of the world's forests.

In 2009, STABILO has introduced it's new GREEN line, which consists of colored pencils, dry highlighter pencils, and graphite pencils, all made from FSC-certified wood. This means that the wood used in these pencils comes from well-managed forests, to maximize sustainability. The packaging is also made from recycled and FSC-certified materials.

Launched in January of this year, the GREEN products have become instantly popular! The sleeper hit of the GREEN product offering have been the dry highlighter pencils. The feedback I've been hearing from both retailers and consumers is that they are so glad STABILO is now offering a dry highlighter again - STABILO used to produce a different dry highlighter pencil in the past but discontinued it some time ago. People like the dry highlighter because of it's ability to highlight thin paper without soaking and tearing it.

Want your own FREE sample from the STABILO GREEN line? Send an email request with your name and address to ebrandsmaven@gmail.com, and I'll send you a free colored pencil sample from the STABILO GREEN line! Please put "GREEN Sample" in the subject line. Free sample offer only good for the United States.

STABILO is Now on Flickr! Check Out the Pics from the Palace Demo!

It was a beautiful, sunny day in Capitola this weekend. The weather made for a pleasant drive down to Palace Art & Office Supply for the Stabilo demo. The demo started strong with a full table of eager participants waiting to try some cool STABILO products such as Point 88 pens, Pen 68 marker pens, CarbOthello pencils, Woody pencils, and Colorgel pens. The favorites of the day were the CarbOthello and Woody pencils - customers were delighted to learn that both these products are water-soluble. Starting with CarbOthello or Woody pencils, they were able to take their mini-masterpieces to the next level with a brush and water. Everyone made their own unique artist trading card to go in the Palace store album for all to enjoy. In return for making a card for the store album, participants received a free raffle ticket for fabulous STABILO prizes!

STABILO Point 88 Hits Web 2.0 Marketing Class!

Tonight I had the chance to do one of my favorite things - spread the STABILO love!

I passed out samples of the STABILO Point 88 pen to classmates in my Web 2.0 Marketing class (the first class of it's kind in the US!). I was shedding tears of STABILO joy as I saw the retro orange barrel with white stripes in everyone's hands. After giving the class a little background on STABILO, I finished by saying how I noticed that everyone who picks up this pen loves it. As I headed back to my seat, my classmate Idyll opened the card that held the pen and with surprise and joy she said, "I do love this pen!".

Wanting to know why she loves it, I asked her about it after class. Idyll explained that she used to have all the colors in Point 88, and that she loves it because it's easy to hold and actually makes her handwriting look better. Who wouldn't love a pen that makes their handwriting look better? That practically makes it like a magic pen in my book!

After class, there were several extra samples left over which were eagerly swooped up by those who wanted seconds on the way out. I hope the rest of my classmates who met Point 88 for the first time tonight enjoy it as much as Idyll and I do!

Interested in what a Web 2.0 Marketing class is all about? You can check out the class on the link below!

That love for BOSS has spawned a variety of unique, informative, and entertaining commercials from around the world, and I happened to find a crazy collection of them on YouTube. Stabilo Makes a Splash at ArtyGras!

For our first retail event of the year, I set up Stabilo camp with a demo table at ArtyGras, a yearly art supply extravaganza held by Art Supply Warehouse of Westminster, CA. On Sunday, March 15th, hundreds of customers flooded the store for the third and final day of this very successful store wide event. Those same lucky customers were able to play and create with a whole breadth of Stabilo products - from the ever popular Point 88 fineliner pens to the chunky, funky Woody pencils.

We partnered Stabilo with Strathmore papers, to offer customers the chance to use any Stabilo products they liked to create their own mini masterpieces on Strathmore Artist Trading Card papers. They also had the chance to drop their newly minted masterpieces into a raffle box, where a winner was pulled every hour. Winners walked away with a very cool gift bag filled with Stabilo and Strathmore goodies. Those who didn't win still got to walk away with free Stabilo swag from the table. Hey, everyone is a winner with Stabilo! Customers who tried and fell in love with Stabilo pens and pencils at the table were elated to find that Art Supply Warehouse had hot deals to boot on Stabilo products inside the store.

Stay tuned for more information on upcoming Stabilo retail events!
